Gates (Bab Doukkala, Bab Aghmat

marrakech babaghmat Marrakech is surrounded by adobe walls. This wall is five meters high and two meters thick. It extends over a length of about 12 km. It was built by Almoravid Ali Ben Youssef in 1126-1127.

A portion of the enclosure is still well preserved, though it was enlarged at the time of successive enlargements of the medina, including the Almohad period. This enclosure is pierced by ten huge doors of which it should be noted :

Bab Doukkala

Imposing structure consisting of two projecting bastions on either side, a door giving passage to a corridor. This door almoravide originally named after the namesake territory inhabited by the Almohad populations.

Imitate the locals and relax; close to the main roads and food souks and a short walk discos and nightclubs in the new town, hide peaceful riads and excellent restaurants

the neighborhood is the perfect place to discover the quiet side of the medina: groups of women chattering at the exit of public hammams, children are trying to convince their parents to stop in front the carts where are piling with sesame seeds sweets.

Bab Aghmat

City gate opening into a bastion defending it. This curious plan must result from a reorganization of the Almoravid period primitive door.
